Antimicrobial and Antioxidant activities of Algerian Juniperus phoenicea and Salvia officinalis Essential Oils

Abstract. In this work, the chemical composition, antioxidant and antifungal activities of Juniperus phoenicea Salvia officinalis essential oils (Eos) were evaluated. The Gas Chromatography-Mass spectrometry (GC-MS) identification S. Eo revealed predominance cis-chrysanthenyl acetate (64.82 %), α- thujone (14.7 %). main compounds J. oil α-Pinene (64.4 %) δ-3-Carene (7.02 antibacterial activity was evaluated using agar well diffusion method. most susceptible bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. tested against Aspergillus Penicillium species by poisoned food two exhibited an activity, with being potent one (8-82 % inhibition). characterized DPPH free radical scavenging S.officinalis Eos had both a moderate effect. Additionally, antagonistic effect observed between when used in combination. Resumen. En este trabajo se evaluó la composición química, actividad antioxidante y antifúngica de los aceites esenciales (Eos). La identificación por cromatografía gases-espectrometría masas reveló el predominio del cis-crisantenil acetato (64.82%) α-tujona (14.7%). Los principales compuestos aceite fueron α-pineno (64.4%) δ-3-careno (7,02 antibacteriana mediante método difusión en pozo agar. más fue probó contra especies alimentos envenenados. dos exhibieron antifúngica, siendo potente (8-82% inhibición). caracterizó captación radicales libres DPPH. tuvieron un efecto moderado. Además, observó antagónico entre cuando usaban combinación.
